If you’re thinking about starting a WAHM business, be sure you are acting in faith as you move forward! Here are 5 ways to start acting in faith today!
Have you ever dreamed, prayed, and believed that God would do something for you? And yet, it never happened?
Let’s say you have this dream of being part of a huge song & dance number for a new Hollywood musical. You tell God how much it would mean to you to be part of something so big and so amazing. But, you never audition or show up to a casting call for extras. (Okay, yes, we’re talking about me here, but I’m sure I’m not the only one out there! —> 🙋🏻♀️<—)
Do you really think some casting director is going to call you out of the blue and ask you to be a part of a movie when you have zero experience and no one knows who you are? Not likely.
That dream will STAY a dream unless YOU participate in the process and put yourself out there for an audition. God could just have an opportunity drop in your lap, but most of the time, He wants to know you’re truly invested in the outcome and are willing to put in the work, so He can SHINE through your actions.
James talks about this balance between faith and works in the second chapter of his letter to the scattered twelve tribes, and he’s actually pretty harsh with them about it:
“Foolish man! Are you willing to learn that faith without works is useless?”
James 2:20 (HCSB)
Eek! I don’t want to be foolish in ANY part of my life, but CERTAINLY not in this calling to start an at-home business! But, James’ point is clear: faith without works will get us NOWHERE.
I can have all the faith in the world that God is going to give me the chance to be in a big, musical dance number, but unless I take a step of faith and ACT like I believe it, it’s never going to happen. My faith is USELESS without works to back it up!
(If this lesson is sounding familiar, I’ve talked about how I had to learn this lessons about marriage, too, and how God asked me to plan a wedding with no groom in sight!)
Are YOU Acting in Faith for Your WAHM Business?

The Temptation to Play Small
The temptation here is to take only tiny steps in the direction of a business, to play small, play it safe, and not risk anything because you don’t believe God will actually come through for you.
When we choose not to take purposeful steps toward our calling, our actions show that we doubt God. If we’re honest, we doubt He will actually make this idea a REAL business that will support our families. So, we play small and risk little.
Believe me, I was stuck in that place for a LONG time. It wasn’t until God called me to start coaching that I even REALIZED how small I had been playing, how much I had doubted God would come through for me financially. When we hesitate to act in faith for our WAHM businesses, we reveal our doubt that God will truly come through for us as He promises He will. Learn from my mistakes!
If God is calling you to start an at-home business, don’t be content to play small. Step out! Take BIG risks & EXPECT God to show up for you in & through your business!
Over the past several months, I’ve been reading a book by Mark Batterson called In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, and I’ve found SO MANY amazing quotes that pertain to chasing our dreams and stepping into the calling God has placed on our lives. This quote, in particular, speaks to this need to be willing to take risks:
“The goal of faith is not the elimination of risk. In fact, the greatest risk is taking no risks. Isn’t that the principle in the parable of the talents? Jesus commends the two men who take a risk and make a return. But the servant who buries his talent and breaks even is called “wicked.” Why? Because he wasn’t willing to take a calculated risk. Maybe risk taking is at the heart of righteousness. Maybe righteousness has less to do with not doing anything wrong and more to do with doing things right. Righteousness is using our God-given gifts to their God-given potential. And that requires risk.”
The evidence of our faith is in our willingness to step out and ACT as if we BELIEVE God will make us successful in what He is calling us to do. So, what does that look like practically-speaking?
If we believe God will make our business a success, we need to…
1) Get really clear on the business God is calling you to start.
Do you know exactly who God is calling you to serve? Do you know exactly how you’re supposed to serve them?
If those two pieces are not crystal clear, your first step in believing God will make your business successful is to get that clarity! If you don’t have something to sell — a product or a service — you don’t have a business. If you don’t have a target market willing to buy your product or service, you won’t have a business for very long.
So pray. Pray A LOT. Read God’s word and ask Him to speak clearly as to what type of business He wants you to start.
2) Make an action plan to get moving & start building your business
What kind of web presence do you need? A full website & blog? Or just a few landing pages?
How will you promote your offer of social media?
How will you optimize your website and landing pages to be found in search engines?
What kind of sales platform and funnel do you need to bring you clients or customers on auto-pilot?
If all those questions sound like a foreign language to you, it’s time to work out a business plan and a marketing strategy. God can’t (or won’t) bless a mess, so make sure you are laser-focused on whatever God has called you to do, then make a plan to get that business rolling!

3) Start praying for those clients/customers God is going to bring.
How many clients or customers do you need for your business to be profitable? Start praying for THAT number of people to be brought into your sphere of influence.
In my business, for right now, I need three coaching clients each quarter to meet our income needs. So, I’m praying that God will bring the RIGHT three women. I don’t know their names, but I’m praying for them to be inspired to dive into their unique callings. I’m praying for them to be encouraged by something their hear or read from me. And I’m praying they will have absolute clarity that I am a good fit to help them get where God is leading them to go.
Pray for those clients and customers every, single day!
4) Pray for wisdom in how to serve your clients/customers well and give them what they truly need.
Yes, we’re praying for our clients or customers. We also need to be praying for ourselves that we will have wisdom in how to serve them well. Whether you are providing a service or a product, the ultimate goal is to give your clients and customers what they need. (The way you interact with your clients and customers may provide the encouragement they need to pursue their OWN callings!)
When I pray about my business, I ask that I will have God’s words to inspire, encourage, and push them toward the action God needs them to take. The Lord knows what these ladies need more than either of us do!
5) Find the help and support you need to keep moving forward.
When we’re first starting our businesses, it’s REALLY hard to think about investing in courses, coaching, or other paid support because we aren’t making any money yet. In fact, most of us NEED money, which is how God got our attention about starting an at-home business in the first place.
But, if we BELIEVE God will make our businesses a success, we need to act on that faith and be willing to invest to learn and gain the skills we need to get started.
Believe me, it is EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to figure out this whole online business thing by yourself without ANY guidance. And it will take MUCH longer to see success — or even get up & running period — without a trusted, experienced guide to show you exactly what to do and in what order.
So, if we’re going to be good stewards of the few resources God has given us — and get the fastest jump-start for the business He’s given us — we need to do whatever it takes to get results and start producing an income quickly.
As I’ve been growing my online business, God has led me to various courses, mentors, and coaches who have taught me various aspects of online business and marketing that I’ve needed to learn. I cannot imagine how much time I would have wasted — and income I would have lost — without their guidance and support to figure out what it really takes to start and run an online business! If we BELIEVE God will make our WAHM businesses a success, we need to act on that faith and be willing to invest to learn and gain the skills we need to get started.
