If God is calling you to raise your babies AND make money from home, it’s time to use His 3 God-given gifts for building a WAHM business!
Have you ever considered starting a WAHM business?
Maybe it’s a financial decision. It’s becoming harder and harder to live on only one income. You love being a stay-at-home mom, but your budget is so tight it’s strangling you. You’d like to have a little bit of breathing room financially, but you can’t stand the thought of leaving your babies with strangers all day while you go back to work.
Or maybe, as much as you love your babies, you also feel like something is missing from your life. Once upon a time, you had a career you loved, a job you excelled at, and you knew exactly how you could help the people around you. If you’re honest, you miss it. You miss feeling like you were part of something bigger than yourself, something outside the home, where you could engage with other adults on a regular basis. And yet you feel so guilty for even thinking about going back to work because you love being a mom, too!
Deciding to go back to work, for whatever reason, can be incredibly stressful. So, what if you didn’t have to choose between supporting your family, having a fulfilling career, and raising those babies yourself?
Over the past 2.5 years of being a WAHM myself, I’ve come to realize a few things about this life I’ve chosen:
It’s not for the faint of heart.
It’s hard work.
But, it’s also incredibly worth it to be able to be home with my girl, bring in some money to help cover expenses, and know my education and skills aren’t languishing on the sidelines. (Which also means my SAHM resume won’t have an employment gap to worry about later!)
We’ve talked before about whether working from home could be a good fit for you, but let’s take it one step further:
Is building a WAHM business what GOD wants for you?
For me, because of my health situation and the fact that I want to be the primary influence on my daughter’s life and education, working outside the home isn’t a truly viable option. But, God opened this door to build a WAHM business. He has allowed me to use all the skills, training, and passions from my previous careers and build a beautiful Mosaic Life from the seemingly scattered pieces, all while learning new skills and discovering new passions.
Is God nudging YOU to try working from home? To use your gifts, help pay the bills, and still keep your family your #1 priority?
If so, I want to encourage you to keep in mind the three God-given gifts you absolutely MUST have for building a WAHM business. (And if you’re reading this, I’m betting you already do!)
The 3 God-given Gifts for Building a WAHM Business
The devotional our church is doing together recently had us study 2 Timothy 1, when these verses about jumped off the page at me:
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.”
~ 2 Timothy 1:6-7 ~
We each have different gifts that God has given us for this life. Rarely are those gifts just for our benefit! They are for serving others, building God’s kingdom, and radiating His Glory.
But how often do we hide that light under a bushel and hope that no one notices? You want to be home with your babies, you need an income, and you know you need to use the gifts God has given you. A WAHM business sounds perfect! So, why are you still hiding? Click To Tweet
Paul calls it a “spirit of timidity” that keeps us hiding, not fanning our gifts into a flame that attracts others to Christ. And that spirit is NOT of God! God gives us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Everything we need to shine brightly in a world drowning in darkness.
Whatever God is calling you to do, but especially if He is calling you to start an at-home business, do it through a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. If any of those three pillars is missing, your efforts will fall flat. God gives us exactly what we need to accomplish His purposes – HIS spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.
Let’s take a closer look at each aspect of that spirit…
A Spirit of Power
In order to get past the doubts that assail us as we begin to walk toward God’s calling on our lives, we have to walk in HIS spirit of power. We will be tempted to play small, so no one sees us fail. We will struggle with self-doubt, wondering who in the world we think we are to be so bold.
We are God’s daughters, princesses of His kingdom. Rightful heirs of His power and authority. Claim it, mama! God has called you to build this business. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
A Spirit of Love
We have to put on God’s spirit of love to achieve His purposes in our callings. Through His spirit, we are called to love Him, love others, and love ourselves.
We have to make sure that we’re building this business because we love God and want to do His will. Any other reason and we’re stuck trying to build a business in our own power. I don’t know about you, but my power is pretty puny. This business needs some Holy Ghost POWER behind it!
We have to love the world because God wants them to be His children, and He has placed us in the world to be His hands and feet. We have to stand in the gap for those He loves and serve them with the gifts He’s given us.
And we have to love ourselves enough to know that we were made for such a time as this. God loves us, sees us as beautiful, worthy creations, and calls us to participate in the work He’s doing in the hearts of men. If that’s how God sees us, we owe it to HIM to see ourselves that way, too.
A Spirit of Self-Discipline
I’ll be honest and say this is where it all falls apart for me. Self-discipline, will-power… NOT my strong suit!
However, if we are not self-disciplined, taking purposeful steps toward an intentional goal, and managing our time and energies wisely, we’ll never get where God wants us to go. We’ll be like leaves blown about by every passing wind, chasing new ideas or the next big thing, turned upside down and twisted in every possible direction until our vision is blurry and we can’t even remember what we were supposed to be doing in the first place. We may despair of ever accomplishing anything at all.
Don’t be a leaf, tossed about and directionless.
Be a tree, rooted in His purpose and planted exactly where He wants you to be in this season of your life. Claim HIS spirit of self-discipline to keep putting one foot in front of another and faithfully pursuing His goals through your business.Thinking about starting an at-home business, mama? Is God Calling YOU to Build a WAHM Business Through HIS Spirit?
It’s pretty incredible how God provides exactly what we need. When we’re struggling financially, when we’re searching for meaning outside of being a mom, He reminds us that all the gifts, talents, education, and training we possess are truly from Him, and we are to use them for His purposes. He gives us HIS spirit of power, love, and self-discipline to guide us through the process of building our WAHM businesses and the strength to keep moving forward, even when the going gets rough.
One of the beauties of building a WAHM business is that there is a whole network of mamas doing the same thing, and we’re all right here on the internet waiting to cheer you on and support you!
