Do your life experiences seem scattered? Has your work history been less than linear? It’s time to discover your Mosaic Life!
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE mosaic tile work. Maybe it’s the Hispanic-culture-loving Spanish teacher in me, or maybe I’m channeling the Sanguine, colorful, pattern-mixing lovelies in my life. Whatever the reason, I LOVE mosaics.
Especially if there’s a story behind them.
I once watched a video of an ICU nurse who collected the colorful caps from all the medicine vials she had used over the years. Once she retired, she created this incredible mosaic from these lids most people would just throw in the trash.
It was BEAUTIFUL.
It was MESMERIZINGLY beautiful.
I couldn’t look away. I kept staring at the little bits of blue and red and yellow as she described the patients she had helped with each one.
Talk about a legacy!
We will not keep them from our children;
we will tell the next generation
about the Lord‘s power and his great deeds
and the wonderful things he has done.
~ Psalm 78:4 ~
This is what I want for YOU, dear mama.
I want you to leave a complex, intricate, and incredibly meaningful legacy behind you. Every experience from your past, every joy-filled moment, every previous employment, every bad relationship, every stupid decision. Each piece has shaped your life and molded you into the woman you are today.
NONE of it is junk. God uses every single piece to craft a beautiful mosaic of your life. Your legacy.
It’s hard to see sometimes, isn’t it?
The problem is we get too stuck on the pieces. All we can see are the fragments. A little blue here, a splotch of red there. It’s a MESS!
What we need is to ZOOM OUT. Step back from that little scrap that’s consuming our entire field of vision, and let God — the most brilliant mosaic artist the world has ever known! — show us the bigger picture he’s tiling together from our seemingly scattered pieces.
Those fragmented experiences from your past? The hurts, the hangups, the victories, the losses, the adventures, the stagnant seasons… They all fit together to make this amazing work of art, your own personal mosaic life.
You can read a bit about MY Mosaic Life on my About page.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
~ Romans 8:28 ~
Yes, even the pieces we’d rather forget!
Not every broken piece is what God would have chosen for us. He gives us the freedom to make choices that have consequences. But the beautiful part is He collects all those garbage moments and uses THEM, too!
That broken shard from your past? That dingy, grayish, jagged-edged piece right there? You didn’t know, but God saved it and placed it your mosaic right where it would make the most impact.
It’s the TIP of the arrow in a Robin Hood and Maid Marion adventure.
It’s the SPARK in the eye of the warrior princess defending her people.
It’s the CENTER of the most beautiful rose you’ve ever seen.
No matter our choices, no matter our missteps, or the maliciousness of others, God takes every shard and creates a masterpiece for the world’s benefit and His glory.
“When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, ‘Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.‘”
~ John 6:12 (NIV, emphasis mine) ~
What does YOUR Mosaic Life look like?
ZOOM OUT. What do you see? It’s a work in progress, to be sure, but are you beginning to see the outline? A HINT of a larger image?
It’s likely we will never see the completed picture here on Earth, but I do believe God gives us glimpses to keep us motivated. To inspire us. To help us remember that nothing in our lives is ever wasted.
God will continue adding flourishes and depth to our mosaics until He finally calls us home and allows us to see how the images and legacies of our lives have affected those around us.
It’s going to be an AMAZING view!
